tangled.org is up and coming and uses ATProto!

Tangled.org

If you find the sheer number of people too much, do visit either Himachal Pradesh or Uttarakhand! You will find THE kindest people there. Though be careful of leopard and bear attacks in Uttarakhand right now!!

Oh, I just came back from Shimla actually. I stayed in Narkanda for 2 days to do some hiking, and Shimla one day, though I didn't interact with many people there. My next stop is Kochi, hopefully things are also a little quieter there.

Kochi is also a very nice city, but if you're coming from Shimla or even Delhi you're going to find it sweltering hot probably. It's about 26⁰C (80⁰F) right now... (I'm close to Kochi and honestly in these temperatures it doesn't even feel like Christmas)

Ps, Kochi can be quite bustling. The more remote and rural towns (like Munnar) are a relatively safer bet.

Make sure you try to talk in English and see. Most people should know or atleast understand english there. And Kerala food can be spicy and it's hot out there. Make sure your drink enough water and stay hydrated.:)

Has any detailed comparision been done between tangled, codeberg and github?

Maybe I am missing something but how and why would a display protocol have anything to do with file access model??

In Wayland you have these xdg-portals that broker access to the filesystem, microphone, webcam, etc. I am not knowledgeable about the security model though.

Portals are used to integrate applications to the host if they're being run inside a sandboxed environment.

They are hooks that latch on the common GUI application library calls for things such as "open file dialogs" such that exeptions to the sandbox are implicitly added as-you-go.

They cannot prevent for example direct filesystem access if the application has permission to open() stuff, like if they're not running in a sandbox, or if said sandbox have a "can see and modify entire filesystem" exception (very common on your average flatpak app, btw).

portals are used by wayland, but you can also use them without wayland.

E.g. under X you can use bubblewrap or firejail to restrict access to the web or whatever for some program, but still give that program access to for example an xdg portal that lets you "open url in web browser" (except the locked-down program can't for example see the result of downloading that web page)

now with gabecube, maybe steamos would be directly available for desktop too

frankly at this point pirating the content seems a lot more convenient than some of these games, I wonder if those execs are trying to intentionally push us off

"I want to kill people and eat their firstborns", what interpretations can you come up for me?

First, I'm an atheist. I'm on your side.

But as a practical matter, I'll point out that trying to ban the interpretation held by the three billion or whatever practicing christians on the planet is a better way to end up as a sacrifice on that altar than to improve the world.

Look, this whole idea is dumb. No, F-Droid shouldn't be in the business of denying religion to make a bunch of intemperate nerds like us happy. Are we really having this fight?

wikipedia provides a factual description of those, bible shows it as actions of a perfect god

subjecting people to eternal punishment for a fleeting crime and dehumanising some people is okay?

The entity is not part of this world and is not affected by what information we distribute, so how would that matter? What dehumanising?
