Ask HN: How should you go about securing your browser’s privacy?

I had a rather disheartening moment yesterday when I was doing some spring cleaning of my computer and realized that Safari had stacked up some four thousand cookies, many to websites I barely recognized or had not ever visited. Safari doesn’t seem to have any reasonable cookie management options except for “delete all.” So I did.

Within a few minutes I once again had cookies from ad agency URLs and facebook despite having been to neither.

How do I ensure my privacy here? I currently use Better, Ghostery, and uBlock—any other suggestions for extensions? And are there ways of running a browser that don’t kill js or your battery while anonymizing oneself?
