I'm about halfway through this book now and I highly recommend it.
I find one of the best ways to get more proficient with Common Lisp is to keep looking at more and more actual lisp code, and this book is full of it.
More generally, I really enjoy the treatment of more classical AI where actual models are built instead of the statistical black-box that is ML.
Like he says there are better books out there if you want to learn about modern AI, but as a book to advance your lisp programming while learning some interesting AI techniques, I think this book is still worth your time.
