2014. 100% agree. Slow walking in particular, where you don’t have to waste mental energy scanning for hazards, and can talk to yourself out loud and wave your arms around in a more coherent manner.
From personal experience, I recommend an elderly dog as a companion to keep your pace down. My very good boy is named as co-author on a couple of recent patents.
fully agree about the dogs part. I made a short video on my dogs' impact on my didgeridoo practice and inspiration pool refills: https://youtube.com/shorts/aaDWZnmForU for a completely non-scientific take ;)
It is insane how when listening to a podcast while (slow) walking around attaches ideas to places. When I rewind or e.g. try to find the time where I paused the podcast before, after hearing a concept I can directly tell where I was walking when hearing about it
From what I've read, learning and memory is contextual. Not only location, but state of mind, and even altered stated of mind (e.g., alcohol). Which also explains those human moments when you've forgotten (e.g.) why you went into the kitchen and have to go back to the dining room to remember why.
