Read the indictment[1], which has all details about burner phones, AOL accounts with fictitious accounts, Amex credit card bills that gave away "google pay" payments to Tinder, which gave away more burner phone numbers.

I thought this statement was interesting (especially for the HN crowd).

"He was caught by utilizing the type of communication analytics only available to federal law enforcement. Bringing in the FBI became a key moment in the investigation, as only federal law enforcement has the technology and resources to crunch the amount of telephone records that zeroed in on the suspect and his Massapequa Park address."

Unclear to me what that means, except FBI had the computational power? to sort through a lot of cell tower data? Access to phone data unavailable to local law enforcement?

Listen to the interview with the former Suffolk DA Tom Sini: https://www.newsday.com/long-island/crime/gilgo-beach-murder...

Cell phone tower dumps, analyzing these dumps (analytics) to reduce the search space (that is, the number of suspects), new DNA tech, and good old police work helped.

Thank you.
