Ask HN: Cost Effective Managed Postgres for Next.js App
1 point by dkpk on Feb 13, 2024 | hide | past | favorite | 9 comments
Hi everyone.

I am looking for a managed Postgres solution for a full stack Next.js app, means serverless.

I have gone through Neon & Vercel Postgres.

Suggestions needed.

I am the CEO of Nile, serverless Postgres for modern SaaS. We have built Postgres specifically for SaaS use cases. Take a look if it is interesting https://www.thenile.dev/

Interesting. Let me have a look.

What blockers did you run into on Vercel Postgres and Neon?

What do you expect to spend?

Haven’t integrated with either of them, still evaluating.

I am looking for a solution that scales with the product. Anticipating to have atleast two databases - one production and one staging.

Quick context on the product - it’s a SaaS product similar to Linear (project management).

Still unclear to me why the two solutions you founds don't scale. Is pricing the issue ($20 USD/month minimum)?

Yes, exactly. Per database pricing is cost effective enough, but $20 plan is something that I am trying to avoid.

In that case, going ahead with Neon only seems viable. But I am unsure if I will be using branching and other features.

Oracle OCI might be a thing to look into

Thank you, but I need something that’s easy to integrate and fully managed.
