Tom Bombadil Steps Forth in the Rings of Power (vanityfair.com)

Huh. Tolkien was very specific about Tom's wardrobe, and the photo doesn't match that at all.

Of course you'd expect Tom to change his clothes at least once in 3,000+ years. But I'd have envisioned Tom to be utterly unchanging -- he is the spirit of the forest primeval.

I also always envisioned him as beardless, though I don't think that's justified in the text. If he's "oldest" he'd probably have a very long beard if he had one at all, but his behavior is youthful and I envisioned his appearance to match.

Regardless, I hope they get their feet under them in season 2. I've heard almost exclusively bad things -- some of which sound merited, others not. So I wasn't rushing out to watch it, though I'd love to have a great new thing available.

For a moment I imagined Tom Bombadil programming in Forth.

It's his same exact nonsense doggerel poetry, as sung by Andy Serkis in the LOTR audiobook (which you MUST listen to, if you have not! )

But in Forth, Bombadil's verse becomes the code that created the universe from scratch. This proves the theory that Tom really is God!
