Of course. Any censorship is wrong, but he already knew that and decided to do it anyway out of fear and greed.

No censorship leads to 4chan. I suspect there's a reason why you're making this comment right now on HN (which has censorship) rather than 4chan.

I think rules is more accurate. Censorship makes me think that you can post something that is within the rules, but if it doesn't fit the agenda it's removed. To me they are different.

I run communities and we have rules. We don't do censorship though.

Hm... sounds like distinction without a difference to me.

Posts get deleted because their content is disallowed by some arbitrary criteria determined by an authority.

4chan is more general instead of being focused on a domain as HN is. However, I do prefer a fully uncensored platform as I don't trust anyone's judgement but my own regarding content.

I think you're kidding yourself if you think something like HN could exist on 4chan.

You confusing content moderation with censorship. Do you consider filtering porn or gore as censorship?

Yes. Removing posts based on their content is censorship, full stop.

In fact, the dictionary definition of "censorship" mentions porn as one example.

No it wasn't. Telling people to drink bleach or take random medicine is and will inherently remain dumb.

I literally had to spend weeks trying to convince my parents not to take random shit they read about online.

Filtering out garbage for official advice from experts on the topic is not "censorship."

What a ginormous cunt this guy is turning out to be!

Part of the reason censorship is bad policy is that if the government had that authority it would've been wielded by Trump. With more government censorship your parents would've gotten less good and more bad information, not the other way around

>With more government censorship your parents would've gotten less good and more bad information, not the other way around

What are you even talking about. The advice from doctors was spot on and remains the recommended way of dealing with COVID infections.

Doctors do recommendations based on your medical record and individual check. Anyone, who follow universal advices by random persons in media was too scare to think rationally or simply enjoy tribalism, mostly driven by politicians and sensation.

> that authority it would've been wielded by Trump

This is what I am talking about. If censorship was legal it wouldn't be medical doctors doing the censoring it would be the executive branch, ie Trump during 2020.

Much of it was also made up. Much of it was just for show. Not to mention many things were censored that we now know were true. Is this acceptable to you? It certainly isn't to me.

Show me an example. I'll wait...

Filtering content about topic that was polticialy motivated and driven by goverment is basically a definition of an censorship.
