If you watched local LA TV last night, you saw houses burning both in Pacific Palisades and in Altadena with no firefighters in sight. You saw Leann Suter or whoever standing there in a deserted neighborhood, with one or more houses gently going up in flames. There were mandatory evacuations, but Leann seemed to be doing alright.
The firefighters did excellent work, and yet overall the situation was not acceptable, is not acceptable.
My prediction: There will be calls for the reinstitution of voluntary fire brigades to work alongside the professionals. If even 10% fewer houses were burned down, it would be well worth it.
7500 firefighters were deployed across socal. You have anecdata about how you perceive firefighters to be deployed, not data. Another factor was the winds prevented any air support until very recently and contributed towards heavy ember spread.
