I think there's a term I no longer recall that describes this sort of situation where the continuing decline will be most noted in the larger pockets of remaining population. Unsure if that term relates to the predatory species moving to where their prey is more abundant or more to do with higher pathogenic factors in higher population densities of the threatened species.
