Ask HN: New user here – unable to submit a link. Do I just need to wait?

I’m new to Hacker News, and I’m unable to submit a link. My account is a few days old (around 5 days). Karma is still low. Is this expected for new accounts? Do I just need to wait longer, or is there something I should do (e.g., verify email, comment first, etc.)?

Thanks for any advice.

There has been a lot of very aggressive SPAMming here over the last few weeks, and it would not astonish me if things had been tightened up to mitigate it.

But the forum I was an admin for, for many years imposed a "no links in a hurry" rule to deter the morons in a hurry who SPAM...

That makes sense from the moderators’ perspective. In any case, I was able to submit just a little while ago, so it seems to be resolved. Thanks for the explanation.

Some links tend to become auto-dead, I can see them with [dead] mark and vouch them if I want. But I do not see any of that in your profile. Why not to tell how exactly are you "unable" to do it, maybe some error message.

Thanks — in my case the link never gets posted at all. When I try to submit, I immediately get a ‘can’t submit this link’ message (not a dead post). So it fails before appearing anywhere in my profile. That’s why I was wondering if this is just a new-account restriction or something similar.

It is ok to contact the moderators using the |contact| link at the bottom of the page.

I didn’t realize there was a contact page — thanks for pointing it out. I’ll try reaching out to the moderators.
