The credit markets often offer early signals. If data center buildup was indeed excessive, maybe we will enter a period of inexpensive rental compute in a couple years from now. On the other hand, as compute becomes more practical, humanity tends to use ever increasing amounts of it. It is hard to balance exponentials, and there is more to lose from underprovisioning than from overprovisioning.
